New Improved Bulk Container Dolly Design

Bulk Container Dollies have a new design

Dolly with container

RPP Containers has improved their dolly design. The new version will offer the same benefits as the original: a strong, durable base; superior weight capacity; and easy control. However, the new design increases the ease of placing and removing containers on the dolly. This is accomplished by a simple yet innovative change to the design.

What makes the dolly special?

Dolly steel frame

The RPP dolly consists of a steel frame that is powder-coated to prevent corrosion and rust. This provides a strong base to support any container of the correct size and load. An L-channel along the perimeter provides a lip to secure the container and impede slippage. The steel for the base doesn’t only afford a strong base for supporting excessive weight, and it is also very durable. A warehouse can be a physical and rough place sometimes, and this means you don’t have to worry about the dolly being bent or twisted when they bump into each other.

Why use two different types of casters?

Dolly casters

Four 5” phenolic wheels support the dolly frame. These wheels are designed for commercial and industrial settings. Resistant to water, oil, and grease, you can be sure that they will have a long sanitary life. Double ball bearing, heat-treated raceways provide a smooth and easy ride for your product. Each dolly has two swivel and lockable casters to make pivoting effortless and two straight casters to help stabilize when pushing towards their destination. Once your bulk container is mounted to the dolly, it will require minimal effort to move your merchandise to the needed location.

What's new and improved?

Originally, the dolly had a 2” rim that ran along the edge to help provide a substantial boundary to prevent the containers from sliding. After some testing, RPP Containers has reduced that lip down to a 1.25” lip. With this reduction, the frame still has enough strength to support a collapsible bulk container filled with material without deforming. More importantly, this reduction in lip height increases the accessibility to the fork pockets on the containers. We’ve opened up more space for forklift drivers to load or unload the totes from atop the dollies by lowering the height.

What are the benefits of the new design?

With this simple change, RPP has been able to maintain all the features of the dolly (weight capacity, durability, ease of control) while simultaneously increasing accessibility and safety.  This change makes it safer to load and unload containers from the dollies. There is much less risk of container drop or pinched hands from wider tines and smaller fork pockets. There is no need to risk back injury lifting containers out by hand because the target for the forklift was too small. The reduction in lip size also helps to combat the rising price of steel, allowing RPP Containers to keep the price of dolly down during this era of price fluctuations.

Is the original design still available?

If the previous design with the 2” lip worked better for you, it is still available upon request. The old design is still available for customers who need to maintain a uniform warehouse or prefer the original design.
