Are you using ID tags or labels on your bulk containers? If not why that might be a costly mistake

August 15, 2022

How do you know that is your bulk container?

Label and tags for bulk containers

For many customers, identification and tagging are key to managing their reusable container fleet. These options improve loss prevention and enhanced inventory tracking. With RPP’s wide container selection, there are also many add-on products in our selection. Details for the most popular options can be found here.

ID tags

ID Tags - What are they good for?

The most common container identification solution we see is ID tags. Located on the pallet section, between the fork openings, these tags provide information to meet our customer’s specifications. Our tags are printed digitally on thin gauge PVC sheets, then cut down to size and laminated for durability. The permanent acrylic adhesive on the backside makes for quick and easy attachment, and for more aged containers, we can produce these with fastener holes if needed. Often, we will put a customer’s logo here, in color if they prefer, along with their location and contact information.

Label placard

Placard Label - Place what where?

Next up would be the well-known [PLACE LABEL HERE] placard label holders, also sometimes referred to as card holders or Kennedy Labels. Many businesses use temporary adhesive labels for shipping and inventory documentation. Supporting that practice, these permanent surfaces allow for labels to be attached and removed with minimal effort without physical scrapping or cleaning chemicals. Usable indoors and outdoors, supporting temperatures of 40°F to 250°F for more extreme environmental demands.

Sidewall Placards and labels

Sidewall Placards or Labels? - Where do they go?

Sidewall placards, commonly known as labels, come in the widest variety. On most containers, there are specific regions on the side walls we call pockets. We can carefully secure placards with plastic push pins or with adhesive backing in these areas. Content on these placards can range from inventory numbers to barcodes to just a basic solid color for identification. Here we use the same thin gauge PVC material our ID tags are made from, usually cut to a 4” x 6” size.

Cardholders

Cardholders - What is the purpose?

Cardholders are another popular option: simple plastic sleeves that allow the quick swapping of signage or tags without adhesive permanence. Just like the placards, these are secured to specific regions on the side walls of the container. Sizing options on cardholders, as a result, will be very similar to the placard options. Remember that these are not suitable as document holders due to their simplicity.

document holder

What do I do for documents?

Many of these options combine on our agriculture hopper bottom seed boxes into the large format document holder. Prominently placed on the front of the container are field-ready pouches that allow for information to be accessed without opening the container for product inspection. This add-on is included with all our seed boxes and is only designed to be used with these specific products. Note that an alternate version uses snap magnets instead of a zipper to enclose documents.

What do I do first?

Regardless of what option makes the most sense for your situation, step one is always identifying what is currently not working. Step two is connecting with an expert who can provide solutions in an approachable manner. Step three, in most cases, will be bringing in products for trial. With so many different styles of containers out there, it can be difficult to start this process. Because we work with all the brands, RPP Containers has positioned itself in the industry to serve as a great resource to anyone looking to improve their warehouse environment.
